Fanthorpes HiFi - The Week Ahead 14th May - 19th May

Hey everyone, another blog post and another busy week. We’ve got a whole host of different HiFi brands and equipment to install next week, with what feels like another tour of the UK. We’ve trips up to Scotland and Gloucestershire booked in. Anyway, that’s enough spoilers! I’ll let you read the rest….

The idea is to give you an insight into our working week here at Fanthorpes HiFi. With what demonstrations we are doing in store and in customers’ homes, services we offer, as well as give you an insight into the distances we travel over a working week.

Monday 14^th May

We hit the road straight away with a visit down to Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. This customer is part exchanging their Linn LP-12 turntable with Linn Basik LV X tonearm, Leema Tucana II amplifier and a pair of Meridian M2 active speakers against the Bryston 4B3 power amplifier that we are delivering.

Tuesday 15^th May

Another day out, this time across Yorkshire to Bradford. We are installing a full system for our customer. Electronics wise we are installing a full Cyrus Signature set up, Mono X300 Signature power amplifiers, DACXP Signature DAC and Pre amplifier and CDXT Signature CD Transport. All of the electronics will run into an IsoTek Evo3 Polaris mains conditioning block.

Our customer has opted for the KEF Reference 1 Speakers to partner his new Cyrus, for cables we are fitting Chord Epic XLR, Epic Digital RCA and matching Epic Speaker cable.

Wednesday 16^th May

Our Arcam AVR850 install from last week was re arranged for Wednesday 16 ^th May. So, we have a midweek trip to East Lothian in Scotland.

The AVR850 receiver requires a full DIRAC set up, which is a service we are happy to offer. The overall aim on a Dirac install is to reach the situation where all speakers are working together to create a `sound field` around you, correctly recreating the movies sound effects while not making themselves noticeable.

Our fully trained installer can use DIRAC to allow this using a high quality specially calibrated microphone and the intelligent room analysis software linked to the new range of Arcam receivers. Full frequency sounds are passed into each speaker one at a time, in up to 9 positions in your room which are then picked up by the microphone and loaded into the software.

This creates accurate waveform graphs of your own rooms actual effect on your systems sound output. By using the DIRAC software, we can adjust these waveforms to more closely match the original movies own soundtrack.

The overall effect of this provides a clean, detailed sound where no one speaker is directly noticeable, and your attention is focused only on the movie. We are also picking up a Moon I3.3 Amplifier with DAC board which the customer is part exchanging against the AVR850.

Thursday 17^th May

No installations booked in for Thursday, but we still have plenty going on. First up we have a visit from our favourite French HiFi company Devialet. Alex is the new man on the block at Devialet, so we'll make sure he feels welcome in our store. It’s always great to see members of the industry pop in, it allows us to turn our focus to a particular brand serving as a nice refresher course and to possibly learn about any new products on the horizon.

Next, we have an in store demo of the KEF LS50 Wireless speakers. It must be said Kef has done a terrific job with the LS50 wireless. They have taken the award-winning LS50s an already fantastic speaker, and added a dedicated streamer, a Bluetooth module, 24-bit/192kHz DAC, preamp and four power amplifiers with a total of 460W of output. A great proposition at £1999.

Friday 18^th May

After a day in the store its straight back out on the road, this time to Hunstanton in Norfolk. A few weeks ago, we visited this customer to home audition a pair of Martin Logan ESL9 Electrostatic speakers. The customer loved the ESL9 and decided to part exchange his older Martin Logan CLS speakers. We left him with our demonstration pair of ESL9. Now his new speakers have arrived with us, we are going back to swap over and install his new pair of Martin Logan ESL9 Speakers.

Saturday 19^th May

A home audition is booked in for Saturday, this time a local job, just on the outskirts of Hull. We are going to install the PMC Twenty5 Subwoofer in a customers existing PMC Twenty series surround sound set up.
