Audiolab PPA7 Phono Stage

The Audiolab PPA7 Phono Stage is a versatile, high-performance phono preamplifier designed to bring the best out of your vinyl collection while introducing a range of modern listening features. Combining carefully engineered analogue circuitry with a built-in headphone amplifier, Bluetooth wireless transmission and USB recording, the Audiolab PPA7 offers a flexible solution for traditional hi-fi systems and dedicated desktop listening setups.

The Audiolab PPA7 supports both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges, with adjustable gain and cartridge loading to help optimise performance for your chosen turntable cartridge. Whether you are upgrading an existing vinyl system or building a dedicated record-listening setup, this advanced phono stage combines high-quality analogue amplification with the convenience of modern digital connectivity.

The Audiolab PPA7 Phono Stage is available for demonstration in our Hull store by request.

With its compact aluminium chassis, intuitive OLED display and supplied remote control, the Audiolab PPA7 is designed to integrate easily into a modern listening environment. Its combination of flexible cartridge settings, headphone amplification, Bluetooth transmission and high-resolution USB recording makes it a compelling option for vinyl enthusiasts looking for more from their phono stage.

Audiolab PPA7 MM/MC Phono Stage

At the heart of the Audiolab PPA7 Phono Stage is a carefully engineered analogue amplification circuit designed to handle the delicate electrical signal generated by a turntable cartridge. Accurate amplification and RIAA equalisation are essential for faithful vinyl reproduction, and the PPA7 has been developed to deliver consistent performance while minimising unwanted noise.

Separate stereo RCA inputs accommodate moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, allowing the PPA7 to work with a wide variety of turntables and cartridge designs. Its adjustable gain and cartridge loading settings provide greater flexibility when matching the phono stage to your equipment, helping you get the most from your vinyl collection.

Adjustable Cartridge Loading and Gain

The Audiolab PPA7 offers a range of adjustment options to help optimise performance for different phono cartridges. Moving magnet cartridges benefit from a standard 47kΩ input impedance, with selectable 100pF or 220pF capacitance. For moving coil cartridges, selectable 100Ω and 330Ω input loading provides additional flexibility when configuring your system.

Gain can be adjusted in 1dB increments, offering precise control when matching the PPA7 to cartridges with different output levels. Maximum gain is 52dB for moving magnet cartridges and 66dB for moving coil cartridges. These adjustment options make the Audiolab PPA7 a flexible choice for vinyl enthusiasts who want to fine-tune their system or accommodate future cartridge upgrades.

Built-In Headphone Amplifier

One of the standout features of the Audiolab PPA7 Phono Stage is its integrated headphone amplifier, allowing you to enjoy your vinyl collection through wired headphones without requiring a separate headphone amplifier. Simply connect your turntable, plug your headphones into the front-panel 6.35mm socket and enjoy your records in a dedicated listening setup.

Delivering up to 600mW of output power and supporting headphone impedances from 20Ω to 600Ω, the PPA7 is designed to accommodate a broad range of wired headphones. Its compact dimensions and integrated amplification make it particularly suitable for desktop listening, smaller systems and situations where listening through loudspeakers is not practical.

Bluetooth 5.3 Wireless Vinyl Playback

The Audiolab PPA7 brings additional convenience to vinyl playback with built-in Bluetooth 5.3 transmission. This allows you to listen to records through compatible Bluetooth headphones or wireless speakers without needing a separate Bluetooth transmitter, making it easier to incorporate vinyl into a modern wireless listening environment.

Support for aptX HD provides enhanced wireless audio quality when used with compatible receiving devices. Whether you prefer wired headphones, wireless listening or a traditional hi-fi system, the Audiolab PPA7 offers several ways to enjoy your record collection while retaining its role as a dedicated high-performance phono stage.

USB-C Vinyl Recording and Digital Archiving

In addition to its analogue amplification and Bluetooth connectivity, the Audiolab PPA7 features USB-C connectivity for recording vinyl records to a PC or Mac. Its built-in analogue-to-digital converter allows you to digitise your collection for convenient storage, archiving and playback through other digital audio devices.

Supporting 16-bit and 24-bit recording at sample rates from 44.1kHz to 192kHz, the PPA7 offers a flexible solution for preserving your favourite records in digital formats. Adjustable recording output levels from -12dB to +3dB provide additional control when configuring your recording software, making the Audiolab PPA7 suitable for enthusiasts who want to preserve rare, out-of-print or personally treasured vinyl recordings.

Compact Design with OLED Display and Remote Control

The Audiolab PPA7 Phono Stage features a compact aluminium chassis measuring 208 x 56 x 180mm, allowing it to fit comfortably on a desktop, hi-fi rack or alongside other compact audio components. Its clear 33mm OLED display, multifunction rotary controls and supplied remote handset provide straightforward access to the unit's settings and features.

The PPA7's compact design complements the Audiolab D7 DAC, providing a coordinated solution for listeners who want to optimise both analogue vinyl playback and digital audio sources. Its intuitive menu system makes it easy to adjust cartridge parameters, gain and other settings to suit your system.

Flexible Connectivity and System Integration

The Audiolab PPA7 includes stereo RCA outputs for connection to an integrated amplifier, preamplifier or suitable power amplifier. Its switchable fixed or variable output provides additional system flexibility, with variable output allowing the PPA7 to connect directly to a compatible power amplifier when required.

Further connectivity includes 12V trigger input and output connections for integration with compatible hi-fi components, alongside a USB-A connection for firmware updates. These features help make the Audiolab PPA7 a versatile addition to a modern vinyl playback system, whether used as part of a traditional hi-fi setup or a more compact listening arrangement.
