A Brief Look Back in Time:

Quad's journey began way back in 1949 during the era of mono sound when they introduced their first loudspeaker, the Corner Ribbon. This product was truly prestigious, offering a distinctive and clear upper mid-range to treble performance thanks to its large and delicate ribbon driver.

The original Corner Ribbon received praise from the hi-fi press for its natural and faithful sound reproduction. So, the question arises: Can Quad's engineers replicate or even surpass this performance today? The answer, unsurprisingly, is a resounding yes.

Then and Now:

The original Corner Ribbon was a groundbreaking speaker in its time, thanks to Quad's enduring ethos of delivering "The Closest Approach To The Original Sound" in all their products. However, it had its limitations, generating relatively low power and featuring a fragile ribbon unit. Quad's founder, Peter Walker, later went on to develop the world's first full-range, push-pull Electrostatic speaker, which remains an iconic loudspeaker to this day.

To create a ribbon unit that could handle the high-power amplifiers of today while doing justice to the original Corner Ribbon was a significant challenge. The Z Series ribbon achieves this by employing a composite ribbon sandwich substrate that is far more durable than earlier designs and immersing this ribbon in an exceptionally potent magnetic field, resulting in ultra-high sensitivity.
