Introducing the All-New Musical Fidelity A1 Integrated Amplifier
Experience the revival of a timeless HiFi icon with the launch of the latest Musical Fidelity A1 Integrated Amplifier. This much-awaited model made its debut at the prestigious High End Munich event earlier this year.
The Musical Fidelity A1 Integrated Amplifier: A Reimagined Classic
Unveiled to both the press and the public at the High End Munich 2023 showcase, this reintroduction stands as one of the most highly anticipated in recent memory. Remaining true to its original purpose of delivering music in its purest form, the A1 retains its signature Class A topology and instantly recognizable industrial design, while undergoing strategic updates to align with modern technological expectations.
Unmatched Sound: The Heart of the Musical Fidelity A1
At its core, the Musical Fidelity A1 Integrated Amplifier is a 25W (8Ω) pure Class A integrated amplifier. Its innovation lies in its capability to seamlessly transition into Class B when there's a surge in current demand. The low-noise pre-amplifier circuitry, integral to the amplifier's "original" design, has been carried over, ensuring a pristine audio experience.
A Glimpse into HiFi History
The Musical Fidelity A1 holds a significant place in HiFi history. Originating in 1985, its pure Class A electrical design was celebrated for harmonizing with a wide array of equipment from that era, all while delivering an unparalleled sonic performance. The 2023 rendition of the A1 remains faithful to its roots, embracing the original blueprint while incorporating refinements to elevate specific technical attributes and satisfy contemporary requirements.
Transformative Transformer Design
Drawing inspiration directly from the 1980s blueprint, the A1's transformer design retains the essence while integrating modern enhancements. Musical Fidelity introduces more efficient dual-mono split-rail windings and superior components, resulting in heightened stability and enhanced heat management. Independent supplies for the left and right channels power the amplifier, fostering improved power handling and stereo imaging. Each power amplifier enjoys double the supply capacity, leading to reduced ripple and noise artifacts.
A Symphony of Pure Class A
The A1's electrical architecture showcases a fully discrete, symmetrical pure Class A technology. Delivering 25W of power (at 8Ω), with the ability to handle 25A of maximum current output, this amplifier might appear modest compared to modern counterparts. However, its prowess shines through when it gracefully shifts, rather than switches, into Class B operation to accommodate temporary surges in current demand.
Enhanced Pre-Amplification
The low-noise pre-amplifier circuitry mirrors that of the original A1, benefiting from contemporary enhancements. A new addition, the DIRECT control on the front panel, enables users to bypass the Gain stage before the musical signal reaches the volume dial. Engaging this feature results in approximately 10dB less gain, catering to modern high-gain source devices that benefit from a broader volume dial range. Further, the inclusion of a new ALPS RK series motorized potentiometer for the volume dial ensures precision, reliability, and compatibility with a remote control for seamless volume adjustments.
Elevated Listening: The Phono Stage
Complementing its five RCA stereo inputs, fixed-level and variable outputs, the A1 boasts a premium built-in phono stage. This integrated phono input accommodates turntables with both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges. With its low-noise design and automatic impedance-matching for MC cartridges, vinyl enthusiasts have a convenient and superior solution for enjoying their record collections.
Timeless Industrial Design
The A1's industrial design pays homage to the original from the 1980s, featuring the angular front panel, top-mounted heatsink, and side-mounted ventilation panels. Subtle refinements contribute to an enhanced user experience while effectively managing heat output from the exceptional pure Class A technology.

Ortofon’s MC X Series represents a new wave in high-fidelity vinyl playback. Building on the solid foundation of the Quintet range, this series introduces a more refined, high-performance line of moving coil (MC) cartridges—all designed and assembled in Denmark.
While the models share core design elements—such as a honeycomb stainless-steel body, silver-plated pure copper coils, and a refined magnet system—the key differences lie in stylus shape, cantilever material, and sonic character. These factors have a profound effect on how the cartridge interacts with the grooves and conveys the music.
Let’s break down the differences between the MC X10, X20, X30, and X40 to help you choose the model that suits your setup and listening preferences.
