Unveiling the Pro-Ject Dark Side of the Moon Turntable
The limited-edition Pro-Ject The Dark Side Of The Moon turntable, meticulously handcrafted and adorned with a captivating LED-backlit rainbow, pays homage to Pink Floyd's iconic 1973 album release. This exceptional piece of audio craftsmanship is now available after its debut as a concept at High End Munich 2023.
Crafted by Pro-Ject Audio Systems, "The Dark Side of the Moon Turntable" takes its place in the prestigious Artist Series collection, marking 50 years since the release of Pink Floyd's groundbreaking eighth studio album.
In 1973, "The Dark Side of the Moon" emerged as one of the world's top-selling albums, featuring one of the most recognizable images in the music industry on its cover. The album's iconic graphic sleeve, designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and illustrated by George Hardie, famously depicts a beam of white light splitting into its constituent colors, creating a timeless image. Owners of the new limited-edition Pro-Ject turntable can now relive this moment of refraction with a simple flick of a switch.
What sets "The Dark Side of the Moon Turntable" apart is its ingenious inclusion of an LED-backlit rainbow, complete with a dimming function, which faithfully reproduces these iconic visuals as your vinyl spins. Even the beam of white light is symbolized by the deck's extended on/off lever, resulting in an unmistakable tribute to the vinyl sleeve that achieved a fame almost as great as the music it contained.
The theme inspired by "The Dark Side of the Moon" artwork permeates every aspect of this turntable, evident in the use of only high-end components. The triangular platter echoes the album cover's iconic dispersive prism, while a solid aluminum sub-platter with bronze bushing supports a substantial 10 mm glass structure.
Beyond its unique aesthetics, this turntable offers exceptional technical features, including an 8.6-inch acrylic and black aluminum low-resonance tonearm, equipped with spring anti-skating by Pro-Ject. Additionally, the deck includes a Pick it PRO Special Edition cartridge, finely tuned for the "Dark Side of the Moon Turntable," ensuring peak performance within moments of unboxing. The precision belt-drive turntable accommodates two speeds, 33 and 45 rpm, with electronic speed control, and Pro-Ject provides a seven-inch single adapter for those who own 45 RPM records of tracks like "Money" or "Us And Them."
