The Mission 778S network music streamer is available for demonstration in our Hull store by request.
The Mission 778S represents a major step forward for the renowned British loudspeaker brand, marking its first dedicated network music player. Designed to partner the popular Mission 778X integrated amplifier, the 778S combines compact dimensions with advanced streaming technology and refined analogue engineering for a sound that is both modern and musically engaging.
Housed in the same compact chassis as the Mission 778X, the Mission 778S measures just 236 x 98 x 357mm, making it ideal for modern hi-fi systems where space is at a premium. Despite its modest footprint, it incorporates a sophisticated streaming platform, high-performance digital-to-analogue conversion and extensive connectivity.
Network connectivity is provided via dual-band Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet, while USB-C allows direct connection to a PC or Mac. Two USB-A ports enable playback from external storage devices, making the Mission 778S equally capable with locally stored music libraries and streamed content.
Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA outputs allow direct connection to an amplifier, while coaxial, optical and USB digital outputs are available for use with an external DAC. A front-mounted headphone output adds further flexibility, allowing the 778S to function as a standalone headphone streaming solution.
To deliver high-end streaming performance at an accessible price, Mission partnered with Silent Angel. A customised version of Silent Angel’s streaming engine is integrated with Mission’s own circuit design, delivering stable operation and excellent sound quality via a dedicated iOS and Android control app.
The Mission 778S supports TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect and TuneIn Radio, along with Apple AirPlay 2. Full UPnP and DLNA compliance allows easy access to NAS drives and networked devices, while Roon Ready certification ensures seamless integration into Roon-based systems.
At the heart of the Mission 778S lies the ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M DAC, carefully implemented with a proprietary Class A post-DAC analogue filter. Balanced analogue circuitry, noise-isolated signal paths and a high-quality linear power supply ensure low noise, excellent dynamics and a natural musical presentation.
The Mission 778S supports PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD up to DSD512, covering virtually all hi-res and lossless audio formats including FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC and APE. PCM upsampling to 352.8kHz or 384kHz is applied as standard, with optional filter selection available for fine-tuning the sound.
