At the heart of the Borresen A3 Speakers is the advanced Borresen RP94 ribbon tweeter, a highly efficient design engineered to deliver exceptional high-frequency performance. Operating from 2.5 kHz upwards, the tweeter has a sensitivity of 94 dB and features an exceptionally lightweight aluminium-coated nylon and aramid membrane weighing just 0.01 grams.
This extremely low moving mass allows the RP94 to respond rapidly to changes in the musical signal, helping reproduce delicate high-frequency information, fine instrumental textures and subtle recording details with impressive precision. Despite its lightweight construction, the tweeter is engineered to remain stable during demanding dynamic passages, helping maintain clarity and minimise audible distortion.
The membrane can withstand temperatures of up to 600°C without performance degradation. By combining speed, efficiency and stability, the RP94 ribbon tweeter plays an important role in the Borresen A3's ability to deliver an open, detailed and engaging listening experience.
The Borresen A3 loudspeakers incorporate the company's DCC5s driver technology, developed to deliver low distortion, rapid transient response and precise control. Careful optimisation of the diaphragm and motor system helps reproduce musical information with clarity, accuracy and a strong sense of coherence.
The DCC5s diaphragm features a multi-layer construction, with an aramid honeycomb core sandwiched between two carbon fibre skins. This lightweight, rigid structure is designed to minimise unwanted resonances while allowing the diaphragm to move accurately in response to the incoming signal. The combination of high stiffness and low mass helps maintain control during complex musical passages, preserving subtle details and precise instrumental definition.
The motor system features a ferrite magnet structure that provides stable magnetic flux, while dual copper caps help reduce voice-coil inductance. This improves linearity and supports lower distortion, enabling the drivers to respond more accurately to changes in the musical signal.
A titanium voice-coil former further contributes to the driver's performance. Its combination of rigidity and low mass helps improve structural stability and responsiveness, supporting precise diaphragm movement with minimal unwanted energy loss. Together, these technologies allow the Borresen A3 Speakers to reproduce music with excellent control, clarity and dynamic accuracy.
Noise control is an important consideration in the design of the Borresen A3 Speakers. Unwanted vibrations, electrical interference and mechanical resonances can affect loudspeaker performance, potentially reducing low-level detail and musical clarity.
Borresen addresses these challenges through an integrated approach to noise reduction, optimising the drivers, crossover, magnet systems and cabinet construction to help minimise unwanted distortion and resonance. The lightweight, rigid driver diaphragms are designed to respond quickly and accurately, while the crossover is optimised for coherent integration between the drive units and minimal signal loss.
The cabinet construction also plays an important role in managing unwanted resonances. By addressing mechanical behaviour alongside electrical and acoustic performance, Borresen aims to preserve subtle musical information and deliver accurate, transparent and musically coherent sound reproduction.
Mechanical vibration can influence loudspeaker performance, whether it originates from the floor, the surrounding environment or resonances within the speaker itself. To address these effects, Borresen works closely with its sister company Ansuz, whose optional Darkz resonance control devices are designed to manage mechanical energy transfer.
The Ansuz Darkz devices use a precision ball-bearing interface and exceptionally hard materials to help control vibrations between the loudspeaker and its supporting surface. Their mechanical design aims to limit unwanted vibration transfer while providing a controlled route for energy dissipation.
Operating entirely within the mechanical domain, Darkz devices aim to create a more stable platform for the loudspeaker, helping reduce vibration-related interference and support consistent performance.
