Valve Amplifiers

Valve amplifiers tend to have a distinctive warm sound with a rich tonality. They use vacuum tubes rather than transistors (solid state) to amplify the audio signal and this is what gives them their distinct sonic signature. Indeed the sound generated by an audio valve amplifier is determined to some degree by the type of vacuum tube used in the design. Different valves have different sonic characteristics. These amplifiers were the mainstream before the mass production of the transistor. However maybe in a similar fashion to craft beer, there has been a resurgence of interest in these designs
