Spendor D7.2 Floorstanding Speakers

The Spendor D7.2 is the smaller of the two models in Spendor's reference D-Line range — a genuine step up from the A-Line in resolution, bass extension and sheer scale, while remaining a size that suits most UK listening rooms. It's a 2.5-way design, using a dedicated EP77 polymer bass/mid driver alongside a separate Kevlar composite driver purely for low frequencies, giving it real weight and authority without losing the midrange clarity Spendor is known for.

Like every Spendor speaker, the D7.2 is designed, engineered and hand-built at the company's own facility in Sheffield. Its LPZ 22mm tweeter and fifth-generation linear-flow port — developed from Spendor's research into low-frequency airflow — work together with a two-point crossover, at 900Hz and 3.2kHz, to deliver a fast, clean, room-filling sound with genuine dynamic expression. True to Spendor's BBC broadcast heritage, tonal accuracy and driver integration take priority over an artificially exciting presentation.

At 90dB sensitivity and an easy 8 ohm nominal impedance, the D7.2 is straightforward to drive from a wide range of amplifiers, including valve designs, making it a genuinely flexible choice for building or upgrading a serious two-channel system without the size or cost of the flagship D9.2.

Key Features

  • Reference D-Line performance — a genuine step up in resolution and scale over the A-Line, in a size that suits most listening rooms
  • 2.5-way design — dedicated EP77 polymer bass/mid driver plus a separate Kevlar composite driver for low frequencies
  • LPZ 22mm polyamide dome tweeter — fluid-cooled for extended high-frequency detail without harshness

  • High 90dB sensitivity — easy to drive from a wide range of amplifiers, including valve designs

Frequently Asked Questions

What amplifier does the Spendor D7.2 need?

The D7.2 is rated for amplifiers between 25W and 200W. Its 90dB sensitivity and easy 8 ohm nominal impedance make it straightforward to drive, including with valve amplifiers.

What's the difference between the Spendor D7.2 and D9.2?

The D7.2 is a 2.5-way design with one bass/mid and one dedicated bass driver, suited to most UK living rooms. The D9.2 is a larger 3-way design with two dedicated bass drivers, offering deeper extension and greater scale for larger or more demanding listening spaces.

Is the Spendor D7.2 a big step up from the A-Line?

Yes — the D7.2 uses a dedicated low-frequency driver, a more sophisticated two-point crossover, and Spendor's fifth-generation port design, giving it noticeably greater resolution, bass extension and scale than any model in the A-Line.
