Introducing Michell Turntables At Fanthorpes HiFi
Fanthorpes HiFi is thrilled to announce the addition of Michell Turntables to our portfolio. With a rich history dating back to the mid-1960s, Michell Engineering was founded by John Michell with a vision to innovate turntable design and revolutionize vinyl playback.
Pioneering Design
In the 1980s, John Michell introduced a groundbreaking turntable design that would set new standards in vinyl playback. Focused on isolating sensitive components from vibrations and mechanical noise, Michell's suspended turntable featured a floating pendulum sub-chassis and an ingenious oil-pumping inverted main bearing. This design advancement propelled vinyl playback far beyond the competition.
Michell Design Philosophy
Michell Engineering's design philosophy revolves around achieving rigidity and non-resonance across the entire turntable system. From the platter to the tonearm, every component is meticulously crafted to ensure precise tracking and minimal interference.
Key Features
Platter: Crafted from high-density, vibration-dampening compound, Michell platters enhance coupling with the vinyl record for neutral and precise sound reproduction.
Bearing: Michell employs a unique inverted bearing design with an oil-pumping mechanism for smooth rotation, low friction, and minimal rumble.
Suspension: Michell turntables feature a suspension system that decouples the vinyl/cartridge/arm trio from external disturbances, ensuring optimal performance and stability.
Motor: Michell uses precision DC motors with tacho speed control for consistent angular speed and minimal noise transfer.
Customization Options
Michell offers a wide range of custom-made arm plates to accommodate various tonearms, allowing users to optimize performance according to their preferences.
Experience the Difference
Michell Turntables offer an unparalleled listening experience, characterized by clarity, precision, and musicality. With their innovative design and meticulous craftsmanship, Michell turntables stand as a testament to the pursuit of audio excellence.

Ortofon’s MC X Series represents a new wave in high-fidelity vinyl playback. Building on the solid foundation of the Quintet range, this series introduces a more refined, high-performance line of moving coil (MC) cartridges—all designed and assembled in Denmark.
While the models share core design elements—such as a honeycomb stainless-steel body, silver-plated pure copper coils, and a refined magnet system—the key differences lie in stylus shape, cantilever material, and sonic character. These factors have a profound effect on how the cartridge interacts with the grooves and conveys the music.
Let’s break down the differences between the MC X10, X20, X30, and X40 to help you choose the model that suits your setup and listening preferences.
