Spendor A1.2 Standmount Speakers

The Spendor A1.2 is the most compact and affordable model in the A-Line Mark 2 range — a genuine shelf-mount speaker rather than a floorstander, making it the natural starting point for anyone building their first serious two-channel system, or wanting Spendor's sound in a room where a floorstander simply won't fit. Unlike the rest of the A-Line, the A1.2 uses a sealed (rather than reflex-ported) enclosure, giving it a tight, controlled bass character that stays composed even close to a wall.

Like every Spendor speaker, the A1.2 is designed, engineered and hand-built at the company's own facility in Sheffield. The Mark 2 update carries over refined internal bracing and cabinet damping first introduced across the A-Line, along with a revised crossover for improved driver integration. True to Spendor's BBC broadcast heritage, the result is a natural, articulate midrange with a captivating clarity that belies its compact size and modest price.

Because it's a shelf-mount design, the A1.2 needs a pair of stands (or a suitable shelf/cabinet placement) to perform at its best — speak to our team about stand height and positioning when you buy, and we can help you get the most from the pair. It's an easy speaker to drive, working well with anything from a modest entry-level integrated amplifier through to a premium system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Spendor A1.2 need speaker stands?

Yes — the A1.2 is a shelf-mount design, so it needs either dedicated speaker stands or a suitable shelf or cabinet to perform at its best. Speak to our team about the right stand height for your room.

What amplifier does the Spendor A1.2 need?

The A1.2 is rated for amplifiers between 25W and 100W and presents an easy 8 ohm load, making it well suited to modest entry-level amplifiers as well as premium systems.

Should I choose the A1.2 or a floorstanding A-Line model?

Choose the A1.2 if you have limited space, a smaller budget, or want the most compact way into Spendor ownership. If you want more low-end weight and scale without adding stands, the floorstanding A2.2 is the next step up in the range.
