Spendor A2.2 Floorstanding Speakers

The Spendor A2.2 is the entry point into Spendor's floorstanding A-Line Mark 2 range — proof that you don't need a large cabinet to get a genuinely full-range sound. At just 150mm wide, it slots into rooms where a conventional floorstander wouldn't fit, including close against a wall, while still reaching down to 46Hz for real low-end weight that a standmount of similar size simply can't match.

Like every Spendor speaker, the A2.2 is designed, engineered and built at the company's own facility in Sheffield. The Mark 2 update brings a fully revised internal bracing structure and a redesigned crossover, tightening up bass control and sharpening stereo imaging compared with the original A2. The result is a speaker that's easy to drive, forgiving of amplifier choice, and — true to Spendor's BBC broadcast heritage — tuned for a natural, unforced midrange rather than an artificially exciting one.

Whether you're upgrading from a bookshelf pair and want proper floorstanding bass without a large cabinet, or building a compact two-channel system in a smaller room, the A2.2 is one of the most complete-sounding speakers in its size class and price bracket.

Key Features

  • Compact floorstanding design — only 150mm wide, fits spaces a standmount-plus-stand combination often can't
  • Redesigned crossover (Mark 2) — improved phase coherence, driver integration and stereo imaging over the original A2
  • 22mm polyamide dome tweeter — wide, even dispersion for a consistent sound across the listening position
  • 150mm EP77 polymer mid/bass driver — Spendor's own cone material, developed and manufactured in-house
  • Easy to drive — 8 ohm nominal impedance, compatible with amplifiers from 25W to 125W
  • Built and finished in the UK — hand-finished real wood veneer cabinets in Oak, Walnut, Black Oak or Satin White

Frequently Asked Questions

What amplifier does the Spendor A2.2 need?

The A2.2 is rated for amplifiers between 25W and 125W and presents an easy 8 ohm load, so it pairs well with most integrated amplifiers, including modest entry-level designs.

How is the Spendor A2.2 different from the original A2?

The Mark 2 version keeps the same driver layout but adds a redesigned crossover and revised internal bracing, improving bass control, driver integration and stereo imaging.

Is the Spendor A2.2 a good speaker for small rooms?

Yes — at only 150mm wide it's one of the more compact floorstanders available, and can be placed close to a wall, making it well suited to smaller listening spaces where a conventional floorstander wouldn't fit.
